Crispy Battered Spinach Fritters

Ingredients

  • 10-15 washed and dried spinach leaves
  • 1 cup gram flour
  • 2 tbsp rice flour
  • Salt to taste
  • 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1 tsp mango powder
  • 1/2 tsp freshly ground black pepper
  • Mustard oil or ordinary oil for frying

Preparation

  1. Mix gram flour, salt, turmeric powder, mango powder, and black pepper with enough water to make a runny consistency batter.

  2. Ensure the spinach leaves are dried before use.

  3. Heat oil in a deep kadai or any deep pan.

  4. Dip each spinach leaf in the batter and drop a few leaves at a time into the oil.

  5. Fry until golden brown, then remove and place on absorbent paper.

  6. Repeat the process until all leaves are fried.

  7. Serve with mint chutney and optionally sprinkle red chili powder on top for spiciness.

Tips

  1. These fritters can also be baked for a healthier alternative, though deep-frying is recommended for the best taste with mustard oil.
