Fluffy Homemade Pita Bread
Ingredients
For pita
- 2 1/2 cups flour
- 2 tsp activated dry yeast
- 1 cup warm water
- 1 tsp turbinado sugar
- 1 tsp salt
- 2 tsp olive oil
For seasoning
- 3 tbsp olive oil extra virgin
- 1 tbsp smoked paprika
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1 tsp italian seasoning
Preparation
To a large mixing bowl, add warm water, yeast, and sugar, stir well, and let sit for 10 minutes to activate.
Add salt, oil, and 2 cups of flour, and mix with hands until a ball of dough forms. If it feels slightly wet, add a little more flour until it comes together and can be kneaded a few times.
Cover the bowl, place it in a warm area, and let it sit for 2 hours to proof.
Preheat the oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit.
Place the dough on a lightly floured surface, divide it into 8 smaller balls, and roll each out flat with a floured rolling pin to about 6 inches in diameter.
In a small bowl, mix together the extra virgin olive oil, smoked paprika, garlic powder, and Italian seasoning to make the seasoning mixture.
Place the rolled pita breads on a sheet pan, spoon about 1 teaspoon of the seasoning mixture onto each, spread it to the edges, and bake in the preheated oven for 10-12 minutes.
Tips
Perfect for dipping into hummus, curries, and dahl.
