Classic Brazilian Meat Turnovers
Ingredients
Dough
- 1 kg all-purpose flour
- 2 tablespoons margarine
- 1/2 tablespoon salt
- 3 tablespoons sugar
- 2 cups milk
- 50 g active dry yeast
Filling
- 1 kg ground beef
- chopped onion
- seeded chopped tomatoes
- black pepper, to taste
- salt, to taste
Preparation
Dough
Mix yeast, sugar, and salt in a bowl with a spoon until dissolved
Add warm milk and margarine, stirring well
Gradually add flour, mixing continuously
Knead the dough on a floured surface until bubbles form
Divide the dough into small balls and let rise for 30 to 40 minutes
Filling
Mix all filling ingredients together
Let the filling sit in a sieve for 30 minutes to drain excess liquid
Assembly and baking
Roll out each dough ball, place a spoonful of filling, and fold into a triangle
Place on a greased and floured baking sheet and let rise until doubled in volume
Brush with a mixture of egg yolk and oil
Bake until golden
