Authentic Italian Pizza with Dough and Toppings
Ingredients
Dough
- 1 kg flour (7.5 cups)
- 1 piece fresh yeast (40g)
- 2 teaspoons sugar
- 1 tablespoon salt
- 3-4 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 egg
- 600-650 ml lukewarm water (3 cups + 1/3 cup)
Sauce
- 400g tomato sauce (preferably canned)
- 3-4 tablespoons olive oil
- 1-2 teaspoons salt
- 1 level teaspoon oregano
Toppings
- 600g grated cheese
- 2 cans tuna
- 1 onion
- 1 red bell pepper
- 250g mushrooms
- 1 zucchini
- 4-5 cherry tomatoes
- 4-5 slices fresh mozzarella cheese
- Additional ingredients as desired
Preparation
Dissolve the yeast in lukewarm water with sugar and let it sit until foamy.
Mix flour, salt, olive oil, and egg in a large bowl, then add the yeast mixture and knead into a smooth dough.
Cover the dough and let it rise in a warm place for 1-2 hours or until doubled in size.
For the sauce, combine tomato sauce, olive oil, salt, and oregano in a bowl and mix well.
Prepare the toppings by chopping the onion, bell pepper, mushrooms, and zucchini.
Preheat the oven to 220-250°C (425-475°F).
Roll out the dough on a floured surface to fit your pizza pan or baking sheet.
Spread the sauce evenly over the dough, sprinkle with grated cheese, and add the tuna and chopped vegetables.
Top with cherry tomatoes and mozzarella slices.
Bake for 10-15 minutes or until the crust is golden and the cheese is melted and bubbly.
Remove from oven and serve hot.
