Delicious Turkish Damascus Cookies
Ingredients
- 3 eggs (one yolk reserved for topping)
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1 teacup yogurt
- 1 teacup vegetable oil
- Zest of 1 orange
- 150 grams soft butter or margarine
- 1 packet baking powder
- 1 packet vanilla
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 5 to 5.5 cups flour
Preparation
Place eggs and sugar in a bowl and mix with a hand whisk.
Add yogurt and oil, then mix again.
Add butter and mix by hand.
Add the remaining ingredients to form a soft dough that does not stick to hands.
Shape the dough into tangerine-sized balls.
Place the balls on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
Brush the tops with the reserved egg yolk.
Make cross-shaped cuts on top with a knife.
Sprinkle with ground walnuts or hazelnuts.
Bake in a preheated oven at 170 degrees Celsius for 35-40 minutes, checking occasionally.
