Soft Braided Turkish Bread
Ingredients
- 1 cup lukewarm milk (200 ml)
- 1 cup lukewarm water (200 ml)
- 1 cup vegetable oil (200 ml)
- 1 packet fresh or dry yeast
- 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
- 1.5 teaspoons salt
- 2 egg whites (for dough)
- 5 cups flour
Preparation
First, put sugar, milk, water, and yeast in a mixing bowl, mix them, and let sit for 5 minutes.
Add the egg whites to the mixture, then add the vegetable oil.
Add salt, gradually add flour, and knead into a soft dough.
Cover the dough and let it rise for about one hour.
Tear off walnut-sized pieces from the risen dough.
Optionally, lightly oil your hands to make shaping easier.
Shape each piece into a long thin stick.
Join two sticks at the ends and twist them to form a braid.
Join the ends of the braid and place on a baking tray.
Brush with egg yolk and let rise on the tray for 15-20 minutes.
Bake in a 170-degree oven for about 40 minutes.
