Soft Braided Turkish Bread

Ingredients

  • 1 cup lukewarm milk (200 ml)
  • 1 cup lukewarm water (200 ml)
  • 1 cup vegetable oil (200 ml)
  • 1 packet fresh or dry yeast
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 1.5 teaspoons salt
  • 2 egg whites (for dough)
  • 5 cups flour

Preparation

  1. First, put sugar, milk, water, and yeast in a mixing bowl, mix them, and let sit for 5 minutes.

  2. Add the egg whites to the mixture, then add the vegetable oil.

  3. Add salt, gradually add flour, and knead into a soft dough.

  4. Cover the dough and let it rise for about one hour.

  5. Tear off walnut-sized pieces from the risen dough.

  6. Optionally, lightly oil your hands to make shaping easier.

  7. Shape each piece into a long thin stick.

  8. Join two sticks at the ends and twist them to form a braid.

  9. Join the ends of the braid and place on a baking tray.

  10. Brush with egg yolk and let rise on the tray for 15-20 minutes.

  11. Bake in a 170-degree oven for about 40 minutes.
