Easy Chocolate Waffles with Fresh Berries

Ingredients

  • 100 g dark chocolate
  • 100 g soft butter
  • 60 g sugar
  • 3 medium eggs
  • 250 g all-purpose flour
  • 3 tablespoons cocoa powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • a pinch of salt
  • 200 ml buttermilk
  • butter, for greasing the waffle iron

Garnish

  • fresh berries (such as blueberries or raspberries)
  • powdered sugar, for dusting

Preparation

  1. Chop the dark chocolate and melt it over a water bath, then let it cool slightly

  2. Meanwhile, cream the butter with sugar and gradually beat in the eggs

  3. Whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt

  4. Add the dry ingredients to the butter and egg mixture and mix well

  5. Stir in the buttermilk and melted chocolate until smooth

  6. Preheat the waffle iron

  7. Grease both sides of the waffle iron with butter

  8. Pour about 2 tablespoons of batter into the center of the hot waffle iron and cook for 2-3 minutes

  9. Repeat with the remaining batter

  10. Serve with powdered sugar and fresh berries, if desired

Tips

  1. This chocolate waffle batter can also be baked in a heart-shaped waffle iron

  2. If you prefer crispier heart waffles, reduce the baking powder to half a teaspoon
