Fried Indonesian Potato Fritters

Ingredients

  • 500 grams potatoes
  • 5 shallots
  • 5 cloves garlic
  • 1 stalk celery, finely chopped
  • 1 teaspoon pepper
  • 1 egg
  • Salt, to taste
  • Sugar, to taste

Coating

  • 1 egg, beaten

Preparation

  1. Peel, wash, and cut the potatoes, then fry until cooked or steam them as an alternative.

  2. While hot, mash the potatoes and set aside.

  3. Sauté the shallots, garlic, and pepper until wilted and fragrant, then remove and pound finely.

  4. Mix the mashed potatoes with the pounded mixture, add the celery, egg, salt, and sugar to taste.

  5. Shape the mixture into fritters as desired.

  6. Heat oil in a pan, dip the shaped fritters in the beaten egg, and fry until cooked.

Tips

  1. This dish pairs well with white rice, soto, soup, or can be eaten alone.

  2. Children enjoy it especially with warm white rice.

  3. It can also be snacked on casually.
