Braided Turkish Pastry

Ingredients

  • 1.5 cups milk
  • 1 cup water
  • slightly less than 1 cup oil
  • 2 egg whites
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 package fresh yeast
  • flour, as needed (approximately 5-6 cups)

For spreading

  • 100g butter

Preparation

  1. Mix the liquids for the dough.

  2. Add yeast to the milk and let it dissolve and foam.

  3. Add sugar and stir.

  4. Transfer to a kneading bowl and mix.

  5. Gradually add flour and knead the dough.

  6. Let the dough rise for 30 minutes.

  7. After rising, divide the dough into 30g pieces.

  8. Roll each piece into a circle on the counter with your hands.

  9. Spread 1 teaspoon of softened butter over each circle and spread it all over.

  10. Roll each into a log.

  11. Repeat the process for all pieces.

  12. Place two logs side by side and braid them.

  13. Place the braided rolls on a tray.

  14. Make all pieces in pairs and braid them.

  15. Let rise on the tray for 20 minutes.

  16. Brush with egg yolk.

  17. Bake at 200 degrees Celsius.
