Braided Turkish Pastry
Ingredients
- 1.5 cups milk
- 1 cup water
- slightly less than 1 cup oil
- 2 egg whites
- 2 tablespoons sugar
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 package fresh yeast
- flour, as needed (approximately 5-6 cups)
For spreading
- 100g butter
Preparation
Mix the liquids for the dough.
Add yeast to the milk and let it dissolve and foam.
Add sugar and stir.
Transfer to a kneading bowl and mix.
Gradually add flour and knead the dough.
Let the dough rise for 30 minutes.
After rising, divide the dough into 30g pieces.
Roll each piece into a circle on the counter with your hands.
Spread 1 teaspoon of softened butter over each circle and spread it all over.
Roll each into a log.
Repeat the process for all pieces.
Place two logs side by side and braid them.
Place the braided rolls on a tray.
Make all pieces in pairs and braid them.
Let rise on the tray for 20 minutes.
Brush with egg yolk.
Bake at 200 degrees Celsius.
