Baked Turkish Cheese Pastry

Ingredients

  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 egg white
  • 1 packet yeast
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 50g soft butter
  • 6 cups flour (add gradually)

Filling

  • white cheese
  • parsley

For greasing

  • vegetable oil (about 1/4 cup)

For topping

  • 1 egg yolk
  • 1 teaspoon milk

Preparation

  1. Knead a lightly sticky dough and let it rise.

  2. Divide the risen dough into 12 equal pieces.

  3. Place the pieces in a tray, grease with oil, and let them rest for 10 minutes.

  4. For each piece, flatten it to the size of a dessert plate by hand, add cheese and parsley filling on one side, and fold it like a roll inward.

  5. After shaping all pieces, stretch each into a cylinder shape, form the desired shape, and place on a parchment-lined baking sheet.

  6. Let them rise for 20 minutes, brush with the egg yolk and milk mixture, and bake in a preheated 190°C oven until golden brown.

  7. Remove from the oven, cover with a wet kitchen towel, let rest for 10 minutes, then serve.
