Spiced Gujarati Thepla Wheat Flatbread
Ingredients
- 1.5 cups wheat flour
- 1 teaspoon ajwain
- A pinch of asafoetida powder
- 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
- 1 teaspoon red chili powder
- Salt to taste
- 1 tablespoon oil
- 2 tablespoons curd
- Water as needed
Preparation
Take a mixing bowl and add 1.5 cups wheat flour
Add 1 teaspoon ajwain and crush with hands
Add a pinch of asafoetida powder
Add 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
Add 1 teaspoon red chili powder
Add salt to taste
Add 1 tablespoon oil
Add 2 tablespoons curd
Add some water and knead well to make a soft dough
Roll out a few balls from the prepared dough
Take a rolling board, apply a drop of oil on it and flatten a dough ball with dry flour using a rolling pin
Heat a pan, place the thepla on it and cook on medium flame
Dry roast the thepla from both sides, then add some oil and cook until golden-brown
Tips
Apply some oil on the dough to avoid it drying out
Keep rolling the dough by moving it from all sides for even shape
Make more theplas following the same procedure
Serve with curd, fried green chilies, or aloo sabji for best taste
