Homemade Orange Peel Cake

Ingredients

  • 1 large orange
  • 1 3/4 cups flour
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 1/4 cups sugar
  • 1/2 cup corn oil
  • 1/4 cup yogurt or labneh

Sauce

  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup orange juice

Decoration

  • thin orange peels

Preparation

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F and grease a cake pan

  2. In a bowl, mix the flour, baking powder, and salt

  3. In another bowl, beat the eggs and sugar until light and fluffy

  4. Add the corn oil, yogurt, vanilla extract, and grated peel from the orange to the egg mixture

  5. Gradually combine the wet and dry ingredients until smooth

  6. Pour the batter into the prepared pan and bake for 30 to 40 minutes or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean

  7. While the cake bakes, prepare the sauce by heating the sugar and orange juice in a saucepan until the sugar dissolves and the mixture thickens slightly

  8. Once the cake is done, remove it from the oven and poke holes in it with a skewer

  9. Pour the warm sauce over the cake and let it absorb

  10. Allow the cake to cool and decorate with thin orange peel strips before serving
