Turkish Kardelen Sponge Cake

Ingredients

  • 4 eggs
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 1 packet vanilla
  • 1 packet baking powder
  • 2 cups flour

Soaking liquid

  • 3 cups milk
  • 1 packet cream (200 ml)

Cream mixture

  • 1 liter milk
  • almost 1 cup sugar
  • 3 heaped tablespoons cornstarch
  • 3 heaped tablespoons flour
  • 80 grams white chocolate
  • 1 packet cream

Preparation

  1. Beat eggs and sugar until frothy in a mixer.

  2. Add water and oil and beat.

  3. Sift dry ingredients and beat briefly.

  4. Pour batter into a large rectangular baking dish lined with parchment paper and bake at 180°C with fan until golden.

Assembly and finishing

  1. Mix the soaking liquid ingredients and pour over the cooled cake.

  2. Combine the cream mixture ingredients in a saucepan, cook until thickened, then spread over the soaked cake.
