Turmeric Tamarind Herbal Drink
Ingredients
- 150g turmeric
- 150g palm sugar
- 50g tamarind
- 1 liter water
- A pinch of salt
- Sugar to taste
Preparation
Peel the turmeric and wash it thoroughly.
Roughly crush the turmeric using a chopper or food processor.
Boil water until it boils.
Add all ingredients.
Simmer on low heat until the color turns slightly brownish, about 30 minutes.
Taste and adjust seasoning; add white sugar if not sweet enough.
Remove from heat and strain.
Can be served warm or cold.
Tips
Turmeric can use the rhizome or the nodes; using the rhizome results in a thicker consistency with more sediment and a slightly bitter taste.
It is better to crush turmeric rather than grate or blend it, as it produces more pulp and is harder to strain, and it can be more bitter.
Boil until the turmeric is fully cooked and changes to a darker color to avoid bitterness and ensure a pleasant taste.
