Easy Turkish Roasted Chestnuts

Ingredients

  • Chestnuts
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • Water
  • Optional: 1 teaspoon sugar

Preparation

  1. Cut the chestnuts as shown in the video.

  2. Soak them in water with 1 teaspoon of salt for at least half an hour; check and remove any that float as they may be spoiled or rotten.

  3. Arrange the cut side down in a pan, cover, and cook until the water is absorbed.

  4. Then, roast in the pan until the shells are dry.

Tips

  1. Optionally add 1 teaspoon of sugar to the soaking water for extra sweetness.

  2. This recipe is perfect for holidays like New Year's and results in a soft, melt-in-your-mouth texture.
