Vegan Bbq Tofu with Gochujang Sauce

Ingredients

  • 2/3 package extra firm organic tofu, drained and pressed well to remove water
  • 1 tsp oil
  • 1.5 cups steamed broccoli florets cut into small pieces
  • 1 cup edamame
  • 1 cup cooked noodles
  • Cilantro, sauteed mushrooms, sesame seeds, scallions, red chili flakes (for garnish)

Sauce

  • 2 tbsp gochujang sauce
  • 1 tbsp rice vinegar
  • 1 tsp water
  • 1.5 tbsp agave or maple syrup
  • 1/4 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp sesame oil
  • 1 tbsp dark soy sauce

Preparation

  1. Cut tofu into thin pieces

  2. Add oil to a large pan and place tofu so pieces are not overlapping; cook in batches if necessary

  3. Cook until lightly browned (about 5 minutes depending on thickness) then flip and cook another 3 minutes

  4. Meanwhile, whisk together sauce in a bowl

  5. When tofu is cooked, add sauce and toss to coat

  6. Serve with vegetables and noodles

Tips

  1. The sauce permeates the tofu and caramelizes during cooking

  2. Gochujang sauce is available online or in most grocery stores and is tangy and flavorful

  3. You can pair the tofu with your choice of vegetables and noodles
