Southern Fried Mac and Cheese Pie
Ingredients
Pastry
- 90g plain flour
- Sea salt and white pepper
- 20g trex
- 10g Lurpak butter
- 2 tablespoons cold water
Mac and cheese
- 300ml boiling water
- Curly macaroni
- 6 Laughing Cow extra light cheese triangles
- 30g grated mozzarella
- Garlic powder
- Onion salt
- Mustard
Burger component
- Vegetarian Butcher chickened out burger
- Southern style breadcrumbs
Toppings and sauces
- Grated double Gloucester cheese
- Hellmann's chilli and garlic sauce
- Lidl Kansas style BBQ sauce
Preparation
Combine flour, salt, pepper, trex, and butter to form crumbs.
Add cold water to bind the mixture, then refrigerate.
Grease springform cake tins and line them with the pastry.
Blind bake the pastry for 18 minutes.
Coat the vegetarian burger in southern style breadcrumbs, spray it, and cook it.
Cook curly macaroni in boiling water until tender.
Stir cheese triangles into the macaroni to form a sauce, then add mozzarella and seasonings.
Place the cooked burger in the pastry case.
Add the mac and cheese to the pie.
Top with grated double Gloucester cheese and bake on high for 7 to 8 minutes.
Serve with chilli and garlic sauce and BBQ sauce.
Notes
The BBQ sauce was intended to be included in the pie but was forgotten in this preparation.
