Vegan Bacon from Rice Paper
Ingredients
- 3 tbsp soy sauce
- 1 tbsp canola oil
- 2 tbsp nutritional yeast
- 1 tbsp maple syrup
- 1/2 tbsp garlic powder
- 1/4 tsp onion powder
- 1/4 tsp liquid smoke (alternative: smoked paprika)
- 1/4 tsp paprika
- 1/8 tsp ground black pepper
- about 4 sheets of rice paper
Preparation
Mix all the ingredients except rice paper to create a marinade.
Preheat oven to 200C (390F).
Quickly soak two rice paper sheets in water, layer them together, and cut into strips with scissors.
Coat the strips with the marinade.
Bake for about 6-7 minutes, watching carefully to avoid burning.
Allow to cool completely until crispy.
Tips
Layer two sheets to prevent the bacon from becoming too thin.
Cut the rice paper quickly after soaking to make it easier before it softens too much.
Monitor the baking process closely as it can burn easily.
