Easy Homemade Dulce De Leche Treat

Ingredients

  • 800 ml water
  • 230 g powdered milk (16 tbsp)
  • 300 g sugar (1 1/2 cups)
  • 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp dulce de leche essence or vanilla essence

Preparation

  1. In a large deep pot, add the water and powdered milk and beat well.

  2. Add the sugar, baking soda, and vanilla essence, and mix until combined.

  3. Bring to medium heat and when it starts to boil, lower the heat and stir with a spatula to prevent sticking.

  4. Continue stirring as the mixture thickens and changes color.

  5. When it reduces, has a caramel color, and is thick, remove from heat.

  6. Pour into a container and allow to cool to room temperature.

Notes

  1. Remember that it thickens more when cooled.

  2. If it is too thick, add a little hot milk and mix.

  3. If it is too soft, cook a little longer.

  4. The thicker you prepare it, the faster it will set and this one took exactly 1.5 hours.

  5. Yield is 405 grams and it can be stored in the refrigerator.

  6. Use it as syrup for ice cream, to cover, fill, or decorate cakes, cookies, or cupcakes, or simply spread on your favorite cookie.
