Basic Bread and Savory Pastry Dough

Ingredients

  • 1 egg
  • 1/4 cup oil
  • 3 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons salt
  • 5 grams (about half a packet) active dry yeast
  • 3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup (approximately) warm or room temperature milk

Preparation

  1. Mix all ingredients except milk in a large bowl

  2. Gradually add warm milk until the dough comes together and is not too sticky

  3. Knead the dough until smooth and elastic

  4. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise until doubled in volume

  5. Shape the dough into rolls or desired shapes, with or without filling

  6. Place shaped dough on a baking sheet, cover, and let rise until nearly doubled

  7. Brush with beaten egg

  8. Bake in a preheated oven at 180Β°C until golden brown
