Homemade Brazilian Cheese Bread Rolls
Ingredients
- 5 tablespoons oil
- 3 tablespoons sugar
- 1/2 tablespoon salt
- 5 grams dry yeast (or 1/2 tablespoon)
- 1 cup warm milk
- 1 egg
- 500 grams all-purpose flour
- Fresh cheese, thickly sliced, for filling
Preparation
Prepare the fresh cheese: slice thickly, let drain in a colander to remove excess liquid, and pat dry with paper towels
In a bowl, mix oil, sugar, salt, yeast, warm milk, and egg until well combined
Add half of the flour and mix until incorporated
Gradually add the remaining flour until the dough forms a shaggy mass and is firm enough to knead, being careful not to add too much flour
Knead the dough vigorously on a lightly floured surface until smooth, elastic, and no longer sticky
Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm place until doubled in volume
Divide the dough into small pieces, flatten each piece, place a piece of prepared cheese in the center, and roll to enclose the cheese
Place the rolls on a baking sheet, cover, and let rise until doubled in size
Preheat the oven to medium heat
Brush the tops of the rolls with egg yolk
Bake in the preheated oven until golden brown
Tips
Knead the dough well to activate gluten for better texture
Avoid adding too much flour to prevent heavy dough
