Homemade Onion Bread Rolls

Ingredients

  • 1 egg
  • 1 cup milk or warm/room temperature water
  • 1/4 cup oil
  • 3 tablespoons sugar
  • 1/2 tablespoon salt
  • 1/2 packet dry yeast or 1/2 tablespoon dry yeast
  • about 1/2 kilogram all-purpose flour
  • chopped onion to taste

Preparation

  1. Reserve the onion. In a bowl, combine all ingredients except the flour, then gradually add the flour while kneading until the dough is smooth, elastic, and pulls away from the hands

  2. Cover and let rise in a warm place for 1 hour or until doubled in size

  3. Punch down the dough, mix in the reserved onion, knead briefly to incorporate, shape into rolls, and place in a greased pan

  4. Cover and let rise again for 1 hour or until doubled

  5. Brush with egg yolk and bake in a medium oven until golden, about 20 minutes

Tips

  1. To use lard, replace the oil with 2 tablespoons of lard

  2. For rising, place the dough in a warm spot: in the sun covered with plastic wrap or a towel, or in the oven with the light on

  3. The onion disappears during baking, resulting in delicious rolls
