Homemade Onion Bread Rolls
Ingredients
- 1 egg
- 1 cup milk or warm/room temperature water
- 1/4 cup oil
- 3 tablespoons sugar
- 1/2 tablespoon salt
- 1/2 packet dry yeast or 1/2 tablespoon dry yeast
- about 1/2 kilogram all-purpose flour
- chopped onion to taste
Preparation
Reserve the onion. In a bowl, combine all ingredients except the flour, then gradually add the flour while kneading until the dough is smooth, elastic, and pulls away from the hands
Cover and let rise in a warm place for 1 hour or until doubled in size
Punch down the dough, mix in the reserved onion, knead briefly to incorporate, shape into rolls, and place in a greased pan
Cover and let rise again for 1 hour or until doubled
Brush with egg yolk and bake in a medium oven until golden, about 20 minutes
Tips
To use lard, replace the oil with 2 tablespoons of lard
For rising, place the dough in a warm spot: in the sun covered with plastic wrap or a towel, or in the oven with the light on
The onion disappears during baking, resulting in delicious rolls
