Jain Capsicum Stir-Fry Dish

Ingredients

  • Oil
  • 1 teaspoon mustard seeds
  • Pinch of asafoetida powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 2 teaspoons coriander-cumin powder
  • Salt to taste
  • 1 medium bell pepper, finely chopped
  • Spoonful of water
  • 1 teaspoon gram flour
  • Juice of 1/2 lemon
  • Less than 1/2 teaspoon sugar

Preparation

  1. Heat up the pan

  2. Add some oil

  3. Add 1 teaspoon mustard seeds

  4. Add a pinch of asafoetida powder

  5. Add 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder

  6. Add 2 teaspoons coriander-cumin powder

  7. Add salt as per taste

  8. Fry for a minute

  9. Add 1 medium sized capsicum cut into small cubes

  10. Add some water to avoid burning masala

  11. Cover the lid and cook for 5 minutes until it is tender

  12. Add 1 teaspoon gram flour

  13. Mix it well and add 1/2 lemon juice

  14. Add less than 1/2 teaspoon sugar

  15. Mix it, cover the lid and cook for another 5 minutes

  16. Turn off the heat and transfer to a serving plate

Tips

  1. Keep the capsicum slightly crunchy for the best taste

  2. Serve warm with roti or khakra

  3. This dish contains no chili powder, onion, or garlic, making it suitable for Jain dietary preferences
