Spicy Chickpea Hummus Toast with Basil
Ingredients
- 1 (15-ounce) can cooked chickpeas, drained
- 1 tablespoon olive oil (or as needed)
- 1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika
- 1 generous pinch sea salt
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
- 1 pinch ground black pepper
- 1 pinch chipotle powder
- 1 pinch ground cumin
- 1 pinch ground turmeric
- Slices of bread
- 1-2 tablespoons hummus per slice of bread
- Fresh basil, chopped
- Crushed red pepper or chili flakes, to taste
Preparation
Drain the chickpeas
Heat olive oil in a pan over medium heat
Add the chickpeas and all spices to the pan
Cook, stirring occasionally, until chickpeas are heated through and well coated, about 5 minutes
Toast the bread slices until golden and crisp
Spread 1-2 tablespoons of hummus on each slice of toast
Top with the spicy chickpeas, chopped fresh basil, and crushed red pepper or chili flakes to taste
