Baked Date-Filled Pastry Balls with Nuts

Ingredients

Dough

  • 1 cup warm milk
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1 tablespoon instant yeast
  • 3 tablespoons corn oil
  • 1 tablespoon rose water
  • 2 1/4 cups flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons milk powder

Glazing

  • 1 egg yolk
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

Filling

  • 2 cups date paste
  • 1 teaspoon corn oil
  • 1 teaspoon rose water

For serving

  • whole walnuts

Preparation

  1. In a mixer bowl, put the milk, sugar, and yeast, and leave it for a few minutes to activate the yeast.

  2. Add the oil, rose water, half the flour amount, baking powder, salt, and milk powder. Attach the dough hook and run on low speed to form dough, adding flour as needed. Cover and let it rise.

  3. Divide the dough into 16 balls. Cover and let them rise.

  4. For the filling, in a bowl, put the date paste, oil, and rose water, ensuring the dates are soft, and shape into 16 balls.

  5. Prepare a large tray and line it with parchment paper.

  6. Take a dough ball, place a date ball in the center, and shape it into a ball. Place it in the tray. Repeat with the remaining dough, spacing them out. Cover and let rise again. Brush with egg yolk and sprinkle with sesame seeds.

  7. Using a spoon or your finger, make a dent in each ball and insert a whole walnut.

  8. Preheat the oven to 180°C and bake for 15 minutes until golden brown.
