Salt Dough Christmas Ornaments

Ingredients

  • 2 cups (480g) all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup (240g) salt
  • 1 cup (240ml) warm water

Preparation

  1. Combine flour and salt in a large mixing bowl. Gradually add the warm water while stirring until the dough comes together. Adjust with a little extra flour if it’s too sticky.

  2. Knead the dough on a clean surface for about 5–7 minutes until it becomes smooth and pliable.

  3. Roll the dough out to a uniform thickness of about 1/4 inch (6mm) on a lightly floured surface.

  4. Use cookie cutters to create your ornaments, or shape them by hand. Use a straw or skewer to make a hole at the top for hanging later.

  5. Preheat your oven to 250°F (120°C). Place your ornaments on a parchment-lined baking sheet and bake for 2–3 hours, flipping halfway through for even drying. Let the ornaments cool completely.

Decoration

  1. Paint the ornaments if desired with acrylic paints, add glitter, or decorate as you like.

  2. Seal with a clear varnish or Mod Podge to make them durable.

  3. Thread a ribbon or string through the holes and hang your creations on the tree or gift them to loved ones.
