Turkish Walnut Moon Dessert
Ingredients
Syrup
- 3 cups granulated sugar
- 3 cups water
- A few drops of lemon juice
Dough
- 125 grams butter, softened
- 1 teacup powdered sugar
- 1 egg (white for dough, yolk for brushing)
- 1 teacup finely ground walnuts
- 1 teacup semolina
- 1 packet baking powder
- 2 cups flour
Topping
- Ground pistachio or walnut
Preparation
First, prepare the syrup and let it cool completely.
In a mixing bowl, combine butter, powdered sugar, egg white, and semolina. Mix with your hands while gradually adding flour and baking powder to form the dough.
Then, add the crushed walnuts and knead a little more.
Divide the dough into two parts.
Roll out one part thickly. Use a round mold or glass to cut out round shapes, then cut them in half to form moon shapes.
Repeat with the remaining dough.
Brush the tops with egg yolk.
Bake in a preheated 180-degree oven until golden brown.
As soon as you remove the baked dessert from the oven, pour the cold syrup over it.
Garnish with pistachio or walnut and serve once it has absorbed the syrup.
Tips
Use the smallest size teacup for measurements as specified.
