Indian Suji Halwa Dessert

Ingredients

  • 3/4 cup ghee
  • 1 cup suji
  • 1 tablespoon besan
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 3 cups water
  • cardamom to taste
  • saffron to taste

Optional add-ins

  • dry fruits of choice

Preparation

  1. In a pan, take 3/4 cup of ghee.

  2. Add 1 cup suji and roast until fragrant and color changes to light pink.

  3. Add 1 tablespoon besan to the suji mixture and roast together.

  4. In another pan, combine 3/4 cup sugar and 3 cups water to make a syrup.

  5. Add cardamom and saffron to the syrup.

  6. Once the syrup reaches boiling point, gradually add it to the suji mixture in parts.

  7. While adding the syrup, turn off the heat for safety.

  8. Stir constantly until all the syrup is absorbed.

  9. Turn on low heat and cook for 2 to 5 minutes.

  10. Add dry fruits of choice and the halwa is ready to serve.

Tips

  1. Adding besan helps the halwa achieve a softer texture.
