Indonesian Crispy Fried Tempeh

Ingredients

  • 125g all-purpose flour
  • 1 tbsp rice flour
  • 200ml water
  • Green onions
  • 2 pieces of thin tempeh

Spice blend

  • 1 tbsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp pepper
  • 1/2 tsp turmeric powder

Preparation

  1. Mix the flour, water, and spice blend evenly. Add the green onions and mix well.

  2. Dip the tempeh into the batter and fry until half-dry, then remove, drain, and serve.

Tips

  1. Mendoan is traditionally fried until half-cooked, but you can fry it until crispy if you prefer.

  2. Use special thin tempeh for authentic results.
