Easy Crispy Indonesian Kremesan

Ingredients

  • 6 heaping tablespoons tapioca flour
  • 3 tablespoons rice flour
  • 1 egg yolk
  • 500 ml water or coconut milk to taste
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt or mushroom stock
  • 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 2 heaping teaspoons garlic powder
  • Plenty of oil for frying

Preparation

  1. Heat oil in a pan.

  2. Mix tapioca flour, rice flour, egg yolk, water, salt, and spices until smooth; strain if desired to remove lumps.

  3. Pour the mixture from a height into the hot oil using a ladle, about 4 to 5 times.

  4. Allow the mixture to set until it can be folded without breaking; do not stir.

  5. Fold the setting mixture in half, then fold again.

  6. Fry until golden brown, then remove and drain.

  7. Once cool, store in a jar.
