Apple Baklava with Nuts and Spices

Ingredients

  • 1 packet phyllo dough
  • 1/2 cup melted butter

Filling

  • 4 large apples, peeled and cubed
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 2 tablespoons raisins
  • 2 tablespoons ground walnuts
  • 2 teaspoons powdered sugar

For serving

  • powdered sugar

Preparation

  1. Get a 13x9 inch high-sided baking pan.

  2. In a wide bowl, combine the apples, cinnamon, raisins, walnuts, and sugar and mix well with a plastic spoon.

  3. Position the oven rack in the middle and preheat the oven to 180°C.

  4. Place a sheet of phyllo dough on the work surface, fold it once, place 2 tablespoons of filling on the short end, roll it twice, fold the sides in, and continue rolling to form a tight roll; repeat with remaining sheets.

  5. Arrange the rolls tightly in the prepared pan and brush with melted butter.

  6. Bake for 15 minutes or until golden brown.

  7. Remove from the oven and let cool for 10 minutes.

  8. Remove the baklava from the pan, place on a serving dish, sprinkle with powdered sugar, and serve.
