Easy Homemade Turkish Bread
Ingredients
Dough
- 4.5 cups flour
- 4 teaspoons instant yeast
- 3 tablespoons sugar
- 1 tablespoon salt
- 0.5 cup milk
- 1 cup water
- 0.25 cup butter or ghee or olive oil or corn oil
Topping
- 1 large egg
- 3 tablespoons roasted sesame seeds
- 1 tablespoon whole fennel seeds
Preparation
In a mixer bowl, place 4 cups of flour, the yeast, sugar, and salt; mix to combine and set aside.
In a small pot, place the milk, water, and butter; heat until the butter melts and the mixture is warm, then add it to the flour mixture.
Attach the dough hook and mix until dough forms; add more flour if the dough is too soft, then knead on low speed for 4 to 5 minutes until smooth.
Place the dough in an oiled bowl, cover, and let it rise in a warm place for about an hour or until doubled in size.
Punch down the dough to release air and let it rest for a few minutes.
Prepare a large tray and shape the dough into a large disk; place it on the tray.
Cover the disk with a cotton towel and let it rise until doubled.
Preheat the oven to 190°C and position the rack in the middle.
In a small bowl, beat the egg with a fork; brush the bread surface with the egg.
Sprinkle sesame and fennel seeds on the bread; use a knife to make decorative cuts on the surface and let it rest uncovered for about 5 minutes.
Bake in the oven for 25 to 30 minutes until done.
