Maraş Kıvrımı Turkish Dessert

Ingredients

Dough

  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 1 tea cup yogurt
  • 1 tea cup sparkling water
  • 1 tablespoon vinegar
  • 1 cup water
  • 1/2 packet baking powder
  • a pinch of salt
  • flour as needed

Syrup

  • 3.5 cups sugar
  • 3 cups water
  • a few drops lemon juice

Dough rolling

  • 1 cup starch
  • 1.5 cups flour

Filling

  • 1.5 cups walnuts

Greasing

  • 4 tablespoons butter

Preparation

  1. For the dough, place egg, yogurt, vegetable oil, sparkling water, salt, vinegar, and water in a mixing bowl and mix.

  2. Add flour until the right consistency and knead the dough.

  3. Leave the dough to rest.

  4. For the syrup, boil sugar and water with a few drops of lemon juice.

  5. Divide the rested dough into walnut-sized pieces.

  6. Roll out each piece to tray size on the starch and flour mixture.

  7. Grease the layers with melted butter and sprinkle with crushed walnuts.

  8. Cut each rolled dough in half, roll into a log shape, twist it, and place in a greased baking tray by rolling.

  9. After preparing the other pieces similarly, wrap them around the first one.

  10. Cut the arrangement into wedge shapes like pizza.

  11. Pour very hot butter over it.

  12. Bake at 180 degrees Celsius until golden brown.

  13. Remove from oven and pour lukewarm syrup over it.
