Turkish Semolina Dessert Balls

Ingredients

  • Half cup semolina
  • Half cup vegetable oil
  • Half cup yogurt
  • 1 egg
  • 1 packet vanilla
  • 1 packet baking powder
  • 2 cups flour (add gradually)

Syrup

  • 3 cups sugar
  • 3 cups water
  • 5-6 drops lemon juice

Preparation

  1. Mix water, sugar and lemon juice, bring to a boil, and boil for another five minutes before cooling

  2. Combine semolina, vegetable oil, yogurt and vanilla

  3. Add baking powder and flour and knead into a dough

  4. Divide the dough into four equal parts

  5. Shape each part into a thin roll

  6. Coat the rolls in semolina by rolling them

  7. Cut into small squares and arrange on a lightly greased baking tray

  8. Bake in a 180-degree oven until done

  9. Pour cold syrup over the hot dessert immediately after removing from the oven

  10. Use a spoon to distribute the syrup evenly over all parts

Tips

  1. Optionally flip the dessert and let it sit to allow the syrup to absorb evenly

  2. Serve with cream or plain
