Turkish Semolina Dessert Balls
Ingredients
- Half cup semolina
- Half cup vegetable oil
- Half cup yogurt
- 1 egg
- 1 packet vanilla
- 1 packet baking powder
- 2 cups flour (add gradually)
Syrup
- 3 cups sugar
- 3 cups water
- 5-6 drops lemon juice
Preparation
Mix water, sugar and lemon juice, bring to a boil, and boil for another five minutes before cooling
Combine semolina, vegetable oil, yogurt and vanilla
Add baking powder and flour and knead into a dough
Divide the dough into four equal parts
Shape each part into a thin roll
Coat the rolls in semolina by rolling them
Cut into small squares and arrange on a lightly greased baking tray
Bake in a 180-degree oven until done
Pour cold syrup over the hot dessert immediately after removing from the oven
Use a spoon to distribute the syrup evenly over all parts
Tips
Optionally flip the dessert and let it sit to allow the syrup to absorb evenly
Serve with cream or plain
