Easy Syrupy Dessert for Bayram

Ingredients

For the syrup

  • 3 cups water
  • 3 cups sugar
  • 1 slice lemon

For the dough

  • 125 ml vegetable oil
  • 125 ml yogurt
  • 125 grams margarine or butter, softened
  • 1 egg
  • 1 cup semolina
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 tablespoon vinegar
  • 3 to 3.5 cups flour (add gradually)

For the filling

  • As needed walnuts

For the topping

  • As needed hazelnuts

Preparation

  1. Prepare the syrup by combining water, sugar, and lemon slice in a pot and boiling for 10 minutes; set aside to cool

  2. In a bowl, mix vegetable oil, yogurt, softened margarine or butter, egg, semolina, baking powder, and vinegar

  3. Gradually add flour and knead the dough until it reaches a soft consistency like an ear lobe

  4. Roll out the dough and add walnuts as a filling between layers

  5. Shape the dough as desired and place on a baking tray

  6. Bake at 170°C for 35 minutes or until golden

  7. Remove from oven and pour the cooled syrup over the hot baked dessert

  1. Ensure the dough is soft to allow proper syrup absorption; add flour gradually during kneading
