Bakery-Style Turkish ŞEkerpare Dessert

Ingredients

  • 250g room temperature butter or margarine
  • 2 eggs (one yolk for topping)
  • 1 packet vanilla
  • 1 packet baking powder
  • 1 cup semolina
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar
  • Flour as needed

Syrup

  • 3 cups sugar
  • 3 cups water
  • Juice of half a lemon

Topping

  • 1 egg yolk
  • Hazelnuts
  • Ground Antep pistachio

Preparation

  1. Boil sugar and water in a pot on medium heat.

  2. After boiling, add lemon juice and boil for another 5-6 minutes, then set aside to cool.

  3. In a bowl, mix butter, eggs, vanilla, semolina, and powdered sugar.

  4. Gradually add flour and baking powder to knead a soft dough.

  5. Shape the dough into small balls and place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.

  6. Brush the tops with egg yolk, score with a fork, and place a hazelnut in the center.

  7. Bake in a preheated 180°C oven until golden brown.

  8. Remove from oven and let rest for 5 minutes.

  9. Then, pour the cold syrup over the baked Şekerpare.
