Nutty Turkish Sheker Pare
Ingredients
- 1 egg
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 250g margarine
- 2 cups semolina
- 1.5 cups flour
- 1 packet vanilla
- 1 packet baking powder
Syrup
- 3 cups water
- 2.5 cups powdered sugar
- 3-4 drops lemon juice
Topping
- Hazelnut
Preparation
First, for the syrup, put water and sugar in a pot and let it boil. After it starts boiling, add a few drops of lemon, simmer on low heat for 15 minutes, then remove from heat and let it cool.
For the dough, in a deep bowl, add all ingredients except flour and mix, then gradually add flour to make a soft dough that does not stick to hands.
Shape the dough into walnut-sized balls and place them in a baking dish.
Press a hazelnut into each ball and bake in a preheated 180°C oven until golden brown.
Once out of the oven, after the initial heat dissipates, pour the cold syrup over the sweets and let them absorb it for about 2 hours.
