Nutty Turkish Sheker Pare

Ingredients

  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 250g margarine
  • 2 cups semolina
  • 1.5 cups flour
  • 1 packet vanilla
  • 1 packet baking powder

Syrup

  • 3 cups water
  • 2.5 cups powdered sugar
  • 3-4 drops lemon juice

Topping

  • Hazelnut

Preparation

  1. First, for the syrup, put water and sugar in a pot and let it boil. After it starts boiling, add a few drops of lemon, simmer on low heat for 15 minutes, then remove from heat and let it cool.

  2. For the dough, in a deep bowl, add all ingredients except flour and mix, then gradually add flour to make a soft dough that does not stick to hands.

  3. Shape the dough into walnut-sized balls and place them in a baking dish.

  4. Press a hazelnut into each ball and bake in a preheated 180°C oven until golden brown.

  5. Once out of the oven, after the initial heat dissipates, pour the cold syrup over the sweets and let them absorb it for about 2 hours.
