Turkish Semolina Syrup Cake

Ingredients

  • 3 cups semolina (1 package)
  • 1.5 teacups sugar
  • 1.5 cups yogurt
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda

Syrup

  • 3 cups water
  • 3 cups sugar
  • 1 teaspoon lemon juice

Preparation

  1. First, prepare the syrup by boiling it, then after 10 minutes add lemon juice, turn off the heat, and let it sit.

  2. Place the semolina in a bowl and add all the other ingredients.

  3. Mix with hands like kneading dough.

  4. Grease a square baking dish and spread the mixture with hands.

  5. Score into pieces with a spoon handle and place almonds on top.

  6. Bake in a preheated 180°C oven until golden brown.

  7. Pour all the syrup over the hot cake when removed from oven.

  8. Serve when the cake has fully absorbed the syrup after cooling for 3-4 hours.

Tips

  1. The mixture should have a consistency similar to corn bread dough and not be too runny.
