Traditional Turkish Mother's Cookies
Ingredients
- 1.5 cups powdered sugar
- 1.5 cups yogurt
- slightly less than 1 cup vegetable oil
- 5 cups flour
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
Topping
- 1 egg yolk
- powdered sugar
Preparation
Take yogurt, vegetable oil, powdered sugar, and baking soda into a deep bowl and whisk.
Add flour and knead until a liquidy dough forms. Do not add extra flour.
Cover the dough and let it rest for half an hour.
Take egg-sized pieces from the dough.
Shape the pieces using vegetable oil.
Place on a parchment-lined tray.
Lightly press the tops and brush with egg yolk.
Sprinkle powdered sugar on top.
Bake in a preheated 180-degree oven for 20-25 minutes, checking occasionally.
