Traditional Turkish Mother's Cookies

Ingredients

  • 1.5 cups powdered sugar
  • 1.5 cups yogurt
  • slightly less than 1 cup vegetable oil
  • 5 cups flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda

Topping

  • 1 egg yolk
  • powdered sugar

Preparation

  1. Take yogurt, vegetable oil, powdered sugar, and baking soda into a deep bowl and whisk.

  2. Add flour and knead until a liquidy dough forms. Do not add extra flour.

  3. Cover the dough and let it rest for half an hour.

  4. Take egg-sized pieces from the dough.

  5. Shape the pieces using vegetable oil.

  6. Place on a parchment-lined tray.

  7. Lightly press the tops and brush with egg yolk.

  8. Sprinkle powdered sugar on top.

  9. Bake in a preheated 180-degree oven for 20-25 minutes, checking occasionally.
