Traditional Turkish Kalburabasti Dessert
Ingredients
- 1 tea glass milk
- 1 tea glass vegetable oil
- 1 tablespoon yogurt
- 2 tablespoons semolina
- 125 grams margarine
- 1.5 teaspoons baking soda
- approximately 3.5 cups flour
Syrup
- 3 cups sugar
- 3.5 cups water
- a few drops lemon juice
Filling
- crushed walnuts
Preparation
First, prepare the syrup by boiling sugar and water in a small pot for about 15 minutes, then add a few drops of lemon juice, boil for another 4-5 minutes, remove from heat, and let it cool.
In a bowl, combine room temperature margarine with the other dough ingredients and knead into a dough.
Break off pieces of dough the size of large walnuts, round them, and press into a mold.
Place some crushed walnuts in the center and seal the dough by bringing the edges together.
Remove the shaped sweets from the mold, turn them upside down, and place them spaced out on a baking tray with no need to grease it.
Bake in a preheated oven at 180 degrees Celsius until nicely browned.
Remove from oven and pour the cold syrup over the hot sweets.
Let rest for a few hours before serving.
Tips
Optionally, garnish with pistachios or coconut when serving.
