Flaky Turkish Poğaça Buns
Ingredients
- 125 grams butter, at room temperature
- Slightly less than 1 cup vegetable oil
- 2 egg whites (yolks reserved for topping)
- 1/2 cup yogurt
- 1 cup lukewarm water
- 2 tablespoons sugar
- 1 level teaspoon salt
- 1 level tablespoon instant yeast
- 2 packets baking powder
- 6 cups flour (add gradually)
Preparation
In a bowl, mix yeast, sugar, and water until the yeast is fully dissolved.
In a mixing bowl, combine butter, vegetable oil, salt, baking powder, yogurt, egg whites, and the yeast mixture; stir well.
Gradually add flour and knead the dough.
Cover the dough and let it rest for 30 minutes.
Shape the dough and place the pieces on a baking tray.
Allow the shaped dough to rise for 10-15 minutes.
Brush the tops with egg yolk and score with a fork.
Bake in a preheated oven at 180°C until golden brown.
Tips
Optionally, add cheese filling, such as kaşar cheese, to some of the buns before baking.
