Traditional Hyderabadi Osmania Biscuits
Ingredients
- 1 cup unsalted butter (softened)
- 1/2 cup powdered sugar (sifted)
- 2 cups all-purpose flour (maida)
- 1/4 cup milk (room temperature)
- 1/2 tsp baking powder
- 1/2 tsp cardamom powder
- A pinch of salt
- 2 tbsp milk (for brushing)
- 1 tbsp sugar (for sprinkling, optional)
Preparation
In a bowl, beat butter and powdered sugar until pale and fluffy.
In another bowl, combine flour, baking powder, salt, and cardamom powder.
Gradually add dry ingredients to butter-sugar mix. Pour in milk little by little and mix until a soft dough forms.
Roll the dough to about 1/2 inch thickness. Cut into round shapes using a cookie cutter.
Set oven to 180ยฐC (350ยฐF).
Place biscuits on a baking tray. Brush tops with milk for a golden finish. Optionally sprinkle sugar.
Bake for 15โ18 minutes or until edges are just turning golden.
Let them cool completely before serving.
