Turkish Tahini Sesame Cookies

Ingredients

  • 125 grams butter or margarine
  • 1 cup vegetable oil
  • 1 cup yogurt
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 egg yolk
  • 1/2 packet baking powder
  • 1 packet vanilla
  • 3 cups flour (add gradually)

Filling

  • 1 cup tahini
  • 1 cup walnuts
  • Less than 1/2 cup sugar

For dipping

  • 1 egg white
  • Sesame seeds

Preparation

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine all dough ingredients except flour.

  2. Gradually add flour and knead until a soft, non-sticky dough forms, then divide the dough in half.

  3. Place a sheet of plastic wrap on the counter, put one half of the dough on it, flatten with hands, then roll out thinly and evenly with a rolling pin.

  4. Meanwhile, in a bowl, mix tahini, sugar, and walnuts for the filling.

  5. Spread half of the filling evenly over the rolled dough and roll it up into a log.

  6. Place the rolled dough logs on a tray and freeze until slightly firm.

  7. Remove from freezer and cut into slices about one finger thick.

  8. Dip the edges of the slices first in egg white, then in sesame seeds, and arrange on a baking tray.

  9. Bake in a preheated 180°C oven until cooked, then remove, let cool, and serve.
