Tuna Salad Sandwiches

Ingredients

  • 8 slices toast
  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise
  • 1 tablespoon mustard
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon turmeric
  • 1/4 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon crushed chili
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 large cans white tuna
  • 1 green onion, finely chopped
  • 2 tablespoons chopped pickle
  • 1/4 cup chopped walnuts

For serving

  • mustard
  • lettuce
  • Swiss cheese

Preparation

  1. In a deep bowl, place the mayonnaise, mustard, garlic, turmeric, paprika, chili, salt, pepper, tuna, onion, pickle and walnuts. Mix the ingredients with a fork, trying to break up the tuna into very small pieces. Mix well to get a homogeneous mixture. Cover the tuna mixture and put it in the fridge for an hour or overnight.

  2. To form the sandwiches: Using a wide plastic spoon, spread the mustard on the toast slices.

  3. Place a piece of lettuce on each slice of bread. Spread the tuna mixture on half of the bread slices. Place a slice of cheese on the tuna. Place a second layer of lettuce on the tuna mixture. Place another slice of cheese then place the remaining toast slices and press lightly on the sandwiches to hold together a bit.

  4. Using a serrated knife, cut the sandwiches into triangles or as desired.

  5. Serve the sandwiches immediately with pickles and olives.
