Indonesian Potato and Meat Fritters

Ingredients

  • 500 grams potatoes
  • 150 grams ground meat
  • 1 green onion or celery leaf
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon bouillon powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground coriander
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg

Spice paste

  • 5 fried shallots
  • 3 cloves garlic

Coating

  • 1 beaten egg
  • 1 teaspoon lime juice (optional)

Preparation

  1. Sauté the ground meat without oil until it changes color. Set aside.

  2. Peel the potatoes and cut into small pieces. Rinse them, then soak in water to prevent discoloration. Drain well before frying, and fry until tender.

  3. Mash the potatoes while hot. Add the spice paste, salt, pepper, bouillon powder, nutmeg, coriander, green onion or celery leaf, and meat. Stir until all ingredients are well mixed.

  4. Shape the mixture into balls. Allow to cool, then refrigerate for about 1-2 hours.

  5. Dip the balls into the beaten egg and immediately place into hot oil. Do not let them soak in the egg mixture for too long to avoid breaking.

  6. Fry until golden brown. Remove and drain. Avoid flipping too frequently during frying.
