Wonderful Brazilian Cheese Filled Bread Rolls
Ingredients
Dough
- 1 egg
- 1 cup warm or room temperature milk
- 1/4 cup oil
- 3 tablespoons sugar
- 1/2 tablespoon salt
- 1/2 packet dry yeast or 1/2 tablespoon dry yeast
- about 1/2 kilogram all-purpose flour
Filling
- fresh cheese, very dry, as needed
Syrup
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1 cup water
- shredded coconut, for sprinkling (optional)
Preparation
Combine all dough ingredients except flour in a bowl, adding flour gradually until the dough is soft, elastic, and no longer sticks to the hands
Let the dough rise for 1 hour or until doubled in volume in a warm place, covered with plastic wrap or a kitchen towel
Shape the risen dough into rolls, filling each with a piece of dry fresh cheese, and place in a greased pan
Let the rolls rise again for 1 hour or until doubled in volume
Brush the rolls with egg yolk and bake in a medium oven until golden, about 20 minutes
Syrup
In a saucepan, combine sugar and water over medium heat, stirring constantly until reduced and thickened
Pour the syrup over the warm rolls and, if desired, sprinkle with shredded coconut
