Traditional Turkish Karaköy Cheese Pastry
Ingredients
- 500 g flour
- 250 g butter or margarine at room temperature
- 1 tea glass water
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 2 tablespoons sugar
- 1 packet fresh yeast
- 2 eggs (one yolk reserved for topping)
Filling
- 1 bowl white cheese
Preparation
Mix all ingredients except flour in a suitable bowl and stir well.
Gradually add flour and knead to form a soft dough.
Take mandarin-sized pieces of dough, flatten slightly, place cheese in the center, close and shape into rounds.
Place on a baking tray lined with parchment paper, press down with a glass to flatten, brush with egg yolk, and shape with a fork or tool.
Let the poğaça rise for 30 minutes.
Preheat the oven to 70°C and let them sit in the oven for 10 minutes, then bake at 180°C until done.
Tips
Doubling the quantities yields approximately 3 trays of poğaça.
