Chocolate Birthday Cake with Ganache

Ingredients

  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/3 cup oil
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 cup flour
  • 2 tablespoons cocoa powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • a pinch of vanilla

Ganache

  • equal parts melted chocolate and cream, e.g., 50g chocolate and 50g cream

Preparation

  1. Beat the egg, sugar, and vanilla together.

  2. Add the oil and milk and mix.

  3. Combine the flour with baking powder and cocoa powder, then add to the mixture.

  4. Mix gently in a circular motion until smooth.

  5. Grease the pan and dust with flour, then tap to remove excess.

  6. Pour the batter evenly into the pan.

  7. Bake with a heat diffuser on low heat for 45-55 minutes.

  8. Do not open the lid during baking to prevent deflating.

  9. Check after 45 minutes.

  10. If using an oven, bake at 180°C for 45-55 minutes in the middle rack.

Ganache

  1. Melt chocolate and mix with an equal amount of cream until smooth.

Tips

  1. Use a smaller pan for better rise; if the pan is larger, double the ingredients.

  2. If eggs are small, use two eggs instead of one.
