Churro-Style French Toast

Ingredients

  • 8 thick slices of day-old brioche or challah bread
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 cup (240 ml) whole milk
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1 cup (200 g) granulated sugar
  • 2 tsp ground cinnamon (for coating)
  • Butter, for frying

Preparation

Cinnamon-sugar

  1. Combine 1 cup granulated sugar and 2 tsp ground cinnamon in a shallow dish and set aside

Custard

  1. Whisk together eggs, milk, vanilla, 1/2 tsp cinnamon, and salt in a large bowl

Cooking

  1. Dip each slice of bread in the custard for 30 seconds per side

  2. Melt butter in a skillet over medium heat and cook bread until golden brown, 3-4 minutes per side

  3. Dredge hot French toast in the cinnamon-sugar mixture

  4. Enjoy warm with toppings like berries, whipped cream, or maple syrup
