Homemade Stuffed Hamburger Pies

Ingredients

Filling

  • 6 hamburger patties
  • 6 slices cheddar cheese or slice cheese
  • 1 large tomato, sliced

Dough

  • 2.5 cups flour
  • 1 tablespoon instant yeast
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 2 tablespoons powdered milk
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 0.5 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 0.25 cup corn oil
  • 1 cup warm water

Glaze

  • 1 large egg yolk
  • 1 tablespoon toasted sesame seeds

Preparation

  1. In the mixer bowl, place the flour, yeast, sugar, milk powder, salt, baking powder, garlic powder and attach the dough hook. Add the oil and warm water, knead until dough forms. If the dough is too soft, add a little flour.

  2. Knead on low speed for 3 to 4 minutes. Shape the dough into a ball and place it in an oiled bowl, brush the surface with a little oil. Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and let it rise in a warm place for about 30 minutes or until doubled in size.

  3. For the filling, heat a large skillet over medium heat. Add a little oil and cook the hamburger patties in batches until done, adding more oil as needed. Let them cool completely.

  4. For shaping, prepare a wide, shallow baking sheet.

  5. On a floured surface, roll out the dough to about 0.5 cm thick using a rolling pin. Use a 4-inch cutter to cut the dough into 12 circles.

  6. Brush the edges of a dough circle with a little egg yolk, place a hamburger patty, a tomato slice, and a cheese slice on top, then cover with another dough circle and seal the edges well.

  7. Repeat with the remaining circles, place them spaced apart on the baking sheet, cover with plastic wrap and let rise for about 30 minutes or until doubled in size.

  8. Brush the tops of the pies with egg yolk and sprinkle with sesame seeds.

  9. Preheat the oven to 190°C, bake the pies for 15 to 20 minutes until golden brown.

  10. Remove from the oven, cover with a light towel for about 2 minutes, and serve warm.
